How we use AI

Octopus uses artificial-intelligence models to enhance vehicle photography for our clients — including background replacement, window reflection removal and shadow synthesis. Every image starts as a real photograph of a real vehicle; AI is used to give it a clean, consistent, studio-quality look. AI editing never alters the vehicle itself — its condition, features and appearance are preserved as photographed.

How AI-edited images are marked

In line with Article 50(2) of the EU AI Act, every AI-edited image we deliver carries embedded, machine-readable C2PA Content Credentials — an open industry standard for content provenance (IPTC digital source type: composite with trained algorithmic media). The credential is cryptographically signed at the moment of delivery and identifies the image as AI-modified.

The marking lives in the file’s metadata: it does not change how the photo looks, and it can be read by any C2PA-compatible tool.

In brief: what is metadata?
An image file can hold more than the picture: alongside the pixels there is room for details that may be stored with it but never appear when you look at the image. This invisible accompanying information is called metadata — think of it as the back of a printed photograph: what is noted there belongs to the picture, but changes nothing about what you see on the front.

A note on limits: like all file metadata, credentials can be removed when an image is re-saved or processed by third-party platforms. This does not affect the marking applied at delivery — every AI-edited image leaves our system marked.

Nothing changes in your delivery flow. Same photos, same quality, same process.
API flag: every delivered photo and set carries an is_ai_processed attribute, so your systems can identify AI-edited images without reading file metadata. See the API documentation.
Platform labels: some platforms (e.g. Meta, TikTok, LinkedIn) automatically detect Content Credentials and may display an “AI info” label on posted images. This is the platform’s own behaviour, intended by the EU transparency rules — not something we add or control.
Your disclosure duties: where the AI Act requires visible disclosure of AI-modified content (Article 50(4)), that obligation rests with the party publishing the images. We support you with the API flag and ready-to-use caption texts — contact us if you need them.
